S. Gopalakrishnan regularly writes on culture and society in Malayalam and English. Published seven books so far and received Sahitya Academy Award in 2013 for best prose in Malayalam. Books published are Jalarekhakal, Kadha Pole Chilathu Sambhavikkumbol, Gandhi Oru Ardha Nagna Vayana, Manushyanumayulla Udambadikal, and Paattum Kaalavum. He also translated Khushwant Singh's The Train to Pakistan into Malayalam.

S. Gopalakrishnan was associated with the Central Archives of All India Radio in Delhi and later he was Director of Programmes at Sahapedia, an online encyclopedia on the Arts and Heritage of South Asia and Content Head of Radio Mango of the Malayala Manorama group in the United Arab Emirates. He currently lives in New Delhi.
